Making Paintings with Artist George Irvine

Suitable for all levels of ability.

George Irvine taught A Level Art at Stowe School, Buckingham for twelve years before setting up his own Art School in 2012. Now owner of the Crown Inn, Church Enstone, he has set up a two day Art Course based around the area.

This is a course for painters who would like to work outside with acrylic and oil paint. There will be an emphasis on encouraging an expressive approach to painting. Please do not expect classroom style teaching. George believes in learning through experimentation and “doing” . You can listen to advice or be left alone… George will always suggest you look at various Artists and books that belong to his Art Library. He will encourage you to photocopy them and stick into your sketchbook (provided).

On your arrival at the Crown on Monday night, you will be welcomed with a drink “on the house” before dinner. After dinner you will be able to settle in to your lovely new bedroom and perhaps explore the village. After breakfast each day at The Crown we will look at various works of Art on the digital projector and discuss them before we head outside, weather permitting, into the landscape around the garden and George’s studio near Middle Barton (4 miles away) with mid-morning coffee and a delicious lunch. If the weather is too challenging then we will work inside with the interior / still life in mind. On the Wednesday night a special three course ‘Arts’ Dinner’ will be hosted by George and Victoria at their home.

Your time with us will be comfortable, very well fed and intellectually stimulating. We hope you will leave filled with new ideas and have acquired new approaches to painting.
